Publicly Available Information
A New Ward in the Protectorate Lineup, she is the Granddaughter of Captain Poseidon, an old Protectorate hero in the city who was popular.
Her identity was made public as a part of her debut due to her connection to her Grandfather, who also had a public identity due to an incident with a villain.
Her public unveiling noted that she has the power to turn into any sea creature and swim through the air, much like her Grandfather's power was to summon flying sea creatures.
PRT / Government Information
Costume Appearance
Nereid wears a modified wetsuit with a fully enclosed helmet. The suit has many armored panels fit across her body for level III armor, and reinforcement and padding to help with blunt force and crushing damage.
The suit covers her hands and has red protectorate accents. While the suit doesn’t transfer over to her changer state, it is safe to say that any flying sea life you see is her.
Civilian Appearance
Hannah is a Korean-American girl, standing at 5’3”. She cuts a slim figure, and is typically found wearing casual clothing when out and about in her civvies. She likes to wear short shorts and loose-hanging shirts. She has bright blue dyed hair, with matching eyes.
Mentality
Nereid is pretty “Go with the flow” personality-wise. She tends to be jokey/quippy in combat, which helps her hide her fear.
Being a part of a wealthy family, Nereid is somewhat embarrassed / wants to hide it. She’s deeply into the conservation of ocean life and animal life, but knows her family fortune makes it seem to other people like this is surface level.
Additionally, being the granddaughter of Captain Poseidon, she has a lot to live up to as a Hero, which places a lot of pressure on her shoulders, especially from a family perspective and especially when she messes up in a public manner.
Skills & Training
- Skilled at First-Aid
- Skilled Swimmer
- Basic understanding of laws and legal procedures
- Basic Radio operation
- Decent cook
- Really bad at music but plays a guitar anyways
Resources & Wealth
Hannah is a part of a rather wealthy family, and lives in a villa in Denver. She has her own small kia car, and generally is in the upper-middle class. However, she stays at the PRTHQ of her own accord. Her room is fairly sparse, but does have a large fish tank by the back, decorated fully with nooks and crannies and with a few different small fish inside. It is her rest tank, for when she needs to spend long-term as an axolotl to regenerate or simply wants to relax among the fish.
She has a significant allowance, and between that and the money she gets from being a Ward, she’s pretty much set in anything she wants to get. She typically wears subtle designer clothes and has new phones. She doesn’t like to flaunt her wealth much.
Equipment & Gear
- Wetsuit armored Costume - Level III protection
- PRT comms (with NUCLEUS encryption module)
- Zip Tie handcuffs
- Compact Flash Light
- Compact Medkit
- Pocket utility knife
- Armored PRT issue Backpack
- Police Standard handcuffs
Parahuman Power
Trigger type: single standard second-gen trigger (captain poseidon)
Nereid is a Changer/Mover with the ability to turn into any aquatic creature. She also has the ability to breathe water and air, and swim through the air like it is water both in and out of changer state.
Turning into small creatures (Things her size or smaller) takes only 1-2 seconds, done generally on the fly. Larger creatures (Up to the size of a hippo or walrus) take several seconds (3-4) to turn into. Truly gigantic creatures, like a Great White Shark or a Whale take around 5-10 seconds to fully turn into. She retains the ability to speak while in animal form.
She can turn into any aquatic or semi-aquatic creature with fair mobility underwater. This includes things like Anacondas and other semi-aquatic snakes, Hippos, Platypi, Minks, Polar Bears, Seals, Crabs (Those that can swim), Penguins, Kingfishers, Otters, Various Fish, and more. Creatures must be at least moderately adapted to life in or around the water to count. She cannot turn into anything smaller than half an inch.
She gains instincts on how to move and use the abilities of any animal she turns into. Animals she turns into are also generally tougher, acting as if they were wearing level II armor. This is more effective with smaller animals, causing her to just be bruised and have a broken rib or two if you stomp on her as a goldfish.
Wounds transfer from form to form as closely as they can. She can regenerate slowly out of combat by taking forms that can regenerate like the axolotl.
Background & Trigger
Hannah was popular at school- Rich, granddaughter of an old and famous Denver Hero, and a social butterfly, what wasn’t to like? She went to a private school in the city, boarded there during the week and went home to family on the weekends.
All was well, until she found one of her friends- Elizabeth Rogers- bullying a new student, and put a stop to it. From then on, Elizabeth turned on her. And when the most popular girl in school turns on a still popular, but less so girl- the result is predictable.
Hannah’s life turned around in an instant. The bullying and disgusting, traumatizing ‘pranks’ pulled were bad enough, but it also began to impact her school work. Bringing her grades home from school disappointed her parents severely, and worst of all- disappointed her grandfather, former Denver Protectorate Hero Captain Poseidon.
Kneeling there in his office, his disappointment looming over her and the bullying at school still haunting her, she Triggers.
And.. things got somewhat better after triggering. It helped somewhat that her identity was public, being the known Granddaughter of Captain Poseidon and with abilities with similar theming (Captain Poseidon has the ability to summon floating sea-life minions), she ended up revealing her identity.
After a rigorous round of training with her grandfather in the use of her abilities, and the training the Protectorate granted, she’s now welcome as the newest Ward in the Denver City Wards.
